What We Do…
Our aim is to build a strong, vibrant base for volunteering on the Isle of Wight through developing volunteering opportunities, recruiting and placing volunteers and by supporting organisations that need volunteers to do their work.
What Is Volunteering?
Volunteering is any activity or service that involves spending time, unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit someone, the local community or the environment.
What Can Volunteers Do?
Volunteers can do almost anything! From helping an elderly neighbour with their shopping, to providing legal advice for a local charity, volunteers make a vital contribution to all aspects of community life.
Who Can Volunteer?
Almost anyone! Young people to senior citizens, those in unskilled jobs to professional people, the highly paid to the unemployed and the able-bodied to people with disabilities. Everyone has something to offer and no experience is necessary. Voluntary groups welcome people from all backgrounds and are often willing to train you. Volunteering isn't a replacement for skilled workersand staff. Volunteers add value and have a distinct role in society.
Why Volunteer?
Helping Others Is Good For You
As well as being great for your community, volunteering can have a positive impact on your life too.
Make new friends
Learn new skills
Make a difference to something you care about
Improve your career prospects
Add variety to your day
Improve your health
Have fun
Build self confidence
Add experience to your CV
Get a new direction and set fresh goals
How Much Time Does It Take?
It’s up to you. It could be two hours a week, the occasional “one off” special event or a few days a month. Usually whatever you can offer is considered and usually welcomed. Being reliable and committed is more important than being able to give a lot of time.
