Ensuring an Environment for a Thriving Third Sector on the Island ‘A Draft Strategy for Consultation’

The Island’s Compact Strategy Group is leading the development of a strategy and a revitalised Local Compact. The group is comprised of representatives of: the Isle of Wight Council, Voluntary Sector Cabinet, Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Trust and Isle of Wight Rural Community Council.

This work is being supported by the Island Strategic Partnership (ISP) which has agreed that that ensuring an environment for a thriving third sector on the Island is a key priority and a Local Area Agreement (LAA) target.

Have your say

The consultation will begin with everyone having the opportunity to influence the final strategy by providing comment on a development draft which is available either on the Eco Island website:
http://www.eco-island.org.uk/our_place/themes_and_actions/voluntarysectorstrategy.aspx

Or on the RCC website:
http://www.iwrcc.org.uk/36/view_article/180/Voluntary_Sector_Strategy_Draft.aspx

This first phase consultation will be open until 25th July with further opportunities to influence the strategy available later in the summer.

Projects which improve community life could be in line for a cash prize, thanks to the 15th Isle of Wight Community Action Awards.

Large or small voluntary groups involved in their community can enter the competition, which is run by the Rural Community Council (RCC) and sponsored by the IW Charitable Trust and the County Press.
Last year’s competition was won by Angel Radio, the station that provides music for the Island’s older generation. In second place was the IW Parkinson’s Disease Society and third was East Cowes Sunday Youth Football Club. As in previous years, there is a £6,000 prize pot to be given to the shortlisted finalists.
Janet Short, of the RCC, said: “We are hoping it will be even bigger and better than last year and we are looking to attract 50 entries.”
The closing date is August 11, with judges whittling entries down to 18 the next day.
Judging will take place on September 11 and 12, and the awards will be presented on October 1 at Quay Arts.
