A group of enthusiastic Islanders are organizing a Ryde International Film Festival in September 2010

See their website at www.isleofwightinternationalfilmfestival.com/
In preparation for this fantastic event they are working with local students and budding film makers to make a series of documentaries about the work of local voluntary and community groups to be entered into the 'Community Award' category at the Film Festival.
So that everyone can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, there is no financial cost to any of the groups who wish to be part of this. All we ask is that all those associated with the documentary give a short presentation at the Festival about what their group is and how they made the film. If you're interested in benefiting from having a promotional film made about your organization contact Nigel Montague at nigel@iowiff.co.uk or info@iowiff.co.uk 07772-409-915

Ponds seek more fans...

Isle of Wight Pond Wardens have been in operation for nearly 10 years and care for around 70 ponds. The scheme was initially set up by Ray Harrington-Vail and Carol Flux, with help from the national conservation charity BTCV and funding from Southern Water. The group is independent but receives support from the Footprint Trust.
Pond Wardens have a passion for wildlife and heritage and give up some of their spare time to care for ponds. All members have been trained in the care of management of wildlife ponds, through free training courses put on by the Footprint Trust.
Thanks to funding obtained by the Hampshire & IW Wildlife Trust more Pond Wardens are to be trained. The group has a shortage of members from the West Wight area, but is interested to recruit people from all over the Island.
The training day will be on Saturday 2 October in the Freshwater area. For more details please contact Ray at the Footprint Trust on (01983) 82-22-82. or email ponds@footprint-trust.co.uk

voice logoVOICE - Isle of Wight

For those of you who haven't heard of VOICE - Isle of Wight, VOICE is the Volunteer Organiser's Information Communication Exchange. As part of the project the Isle of Wight Volunteer Centre is organising bi-monthly networking sessions to give people who manage/co-ordinate volunteers on the Isle of Wight the chance to get together, share problems and ideas and hopefully learn from each other. We had a first event in November which proved very successful and we hope to have even more people along to our next event.
If you would like details of future sessions contact Helen on 01983 539377 or e-mail volunteer@iwrcc.org.uk
