Voluntary Support Team

A new way of volunteering
A new way of supporting voluntary and community group across the Island
A new way of helping communities help themselves
Who are we?
We are volunteers, supported and co-ordinated by the Rural Community Council, who want to share our time, knowledge and skills with voluntary groups across the Island.
How can we help?
We can provide your group or organisation with specialist support around a certain issue or project.
What do we do?
The work we can undertake is very varied and will be tailored to meet the individual needs of your group. VST volunteers can:
- Help with setting up new community organisations
- Design data bases and provide ICT maintenance
- Assist with governance (running a group)
- Identify potential funding sources
- Support buildings management
- Advise on Charity Law
- Help with publicity
How does this work for groups?
The IWRCC is currently recruiting volunteer members who will support community groups, charities and sports organisations to run more effectively. Each volunteer is trained to become a specialist in one or two subjects of their own choosing. They are supported, trained and insured by the IWRCC making them a valuable resource for voluntary groups.
Community groups needing help and assistance make contact with the IWRCC, and are then allocated a specialist volunteer best suited to their needs.
How does this work for volunteers?
- Volunteers can commit to as little as two hours per month and are flexible as to time and place.
- Volunteers work face-to-face, by phone, or Internet.
- Volunteers provide support to a variety of community groups across the Island
Krissy, a VST volunteer has been working with the IW Rainbow (Deaf /Blind) Group on funding applications to secure the future of this specialised group to ensure they can continue to support their members.

Voluntary Support Team first contact form
This form is for the voluntary and community groups to complete if they would like to request help from the VST. Please complete it with as much information as possible in the ‘help needed' bit as this would make it much easier to allocate the most appropriate volunteer to the task.
