Environment Forum
The role of the Environment Forum is to bring together all the Island's major groups and organisations with an interest in the natural environment and sustainability
To act as a critical friend on major plans and strategies for the Island, particularly Sustainability Appraisal
To develop a joint action plan for protection of the Island's natural assets and reduction of the ecological footprint
The Environment Forum has agreed an action plan which addresses the following themes:
Planning - Work with IW Council to establish Sustainability Checklist and early stage scoping group for all proposed developments
Housing - Improve all Island homes to >SAP 65 to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty
Renewable Energy - Support the ambition for the Island to become self-sufficient in renewable electricity, beginning with 10% of the Island's consumption from renewable sources by 2010
Resource use - Encourage greater energy and water efficiency and waste minimisation to reduce the Island's ecological footprint
Rural economy - Develop Local Food Networks linking local producers with consumers
Natural, historic and built environment - Conserve & enhance the AONB, maintain & enhance the quality of the natural, historic and built environment through supporting the BAP, HEAP and WW Landscape Partnership projects.
Climate change - Reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and develop plans for adaptation to climate change
Community - Support development of GreenTowns programme
Transport - Promote Workplace Travel Plans and School Travel Plans and Increase cycling and bus use
Delivery will be through its component parts rather than by the Forum itself, and funding will be sought to deliver those initiatives which are not currently funded.
